Rome and Beyond – Day 1

These last few days have been all about tying down loose ends, cleaning house (don’t want to come home tired and find a mess) and printing out confirmations; that and spending money! A warm up for the trip itself. LOL

We leave tomorrow morning and will spend the better part of a day traveling (17 hours or so) between the time we close our Denver door and the time we walk through the door of our apartment across the street from the Palazzo Farnese (currently the French Embassy) by the Tiber River.

The hardest things about a trip like this (besides all the hours of planning and digging, and communication across language barriers) are the travel days at either end. Those are days of intense boredom and circadian disturbance.

The reward, besides being in Italy, will be connecting with our daughter and seeing Rome through her eyes.

We are hauling clothes, hardware, travel food, a small portion of the stock of the local Target, and enough official documents for a visit of the Moscow Circus.

I think I did all that needed to be done – but we won’t really know until we walk like lambs into the clutches of the travel gods.

Wish us luck. All good thoughts will be gratefully accepted.

I’ll post again in Rome!

  1. It’s “all about the journey.” I’m reposting your trip, have a great time!

  2. Oh do enjoy Rome! It’s so wonderful – I was last there in 2008. Around every corner is a filmset on a grand scale. Enjoy!
