Distraction

It’s the knowledge of death
that keeps us at it
the secret fear
too terrible to admit
too present to escape

that spawned the ancient lie
of achievable exception
from the ebb and flow
of being and not-being

that keeps us using up
the precious hours
in pointless searching
for a key

a word
a drug
a deed
a thing
the magic that will
free us from the truth
of what we are

  1. I admire the courage and sincerity with which you are burrowing into your current work. I am not surprised it has caused a temporary lull in your writing. I look forward to hearing about your trip and agree, that sometimes it is best to just let things simmer on the stove for awhile. Just don’t give up cooking! Your friend, June
