Summer’s End

Summer’s End

Today Autumn came rushing in displacing Summer overnight;
hurrying to fill its place with winds and chill and sudden energy;
assurance that the cruel drought had passed.

The season brought its gentle rain; the scent of water lingering in the air
for hours before the predawn drops tapped out their song on thirsty leaves
and hissed through blades of grass.

The light has changed from glare to soft accent.
The sun that yesterday beat down upon our heads and necks
has turned, in one night, to softness;
its warmth, welcome again in the chill morning air.

  1. Rushing the season a bit? Nice poem though!
