Heads, You Win

The Other Side of the Coin

The simple act of loving builds an altar in the heart
weaves it in like boughs and branches woven in a woodland bower.
till its roots set into flesh and its leafy green shades out
the harsh and unkind world we leave behind.

We’ll gladly overlook a lover’s small deviations, even some quite large,
to keep away the pain that we are sure will come from tearing down
that altar built of trust and ripping out hope’s tendrils from our soul

So, be slow to judge inaction when a friend cries to you
for solace  from a seeming senseless love.
The outrage and confusion, the pain and disrespect
may seem to them far gentler than the loss of their fond dream.
